picture of Pella (Tabaqat Fahil)This beautiful city derived its name from the Greeks in the fourth century AD, when Alexander the Great invaded the site in 332 BC. It has a strategic location on the trade routes from the east to the west of Jordan. Settlers from Macedonia arrived here in 310, they lived here, and they called Pella the place of birth of Alexander the Great. It was the place where the first Christians sought refuge during the famous Jewish revolt against the Romans in 72 AD.
