At a time when the trade routes were everywhere in the desert, connecting different parts of the world together, caravanserai were established along them. However, whereas the city was a boisterous place full of crowds of people, the leaders or the generals of armies chose the desert as a place of relaxation, comfort and inspiration.
Some of the castles we can see in the desert were used for many reasons, such as caravan stations, fortresses, and palaces for the caliphs.
