It is such a very different place that it might remind you of the moon, because nowhere else in the world has a similar lunar landscape. The rocks are formed in a peculiar way by nature, a transformation which started some 500 million years ago.
The earliest rocks were the granite, formed 500 million years ago. The sandstone rocks came about 57 million years ago, and the limestone about 18 million years ago.

All the various rock formations make the Jordanian desert unique, especially when we take into consideration the fact that water from the sea covered most of the country millions of years ago. The colours of the rocks are so amazing because they contain so many different types of minerals.
