Cycling Tour of Jordan
Originally designed as a 10 day trip and still running each year as a training expedition for those who want to experience the adventure. We redesigned this trip for those who love nature and sightseeing. Spend 10 days exploring the north and south of Jordan, mountain biking and desert biking. Experience magnificent mountains, abundant wildlife and much more. We've selected biking routes and hiking trails which offer incredible vistas, geological wonders and historically famous trails. Itinerary day by day:
Day 1 : Arrival
Flight to Amman and transfer to Azraq Guesthouse for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2 : Qasr Al-Azraq/Shumari Natural Reserve/Azraq Guesthouse
Your cycling tour will start with a visit to Qasr al-Azraq. This Islamic castle was built in black basalt and has been in continuous use since Roman times. During the Arab revolt it functioned as the headquarters of Lawrence of Arabia. You will cycle in the beautiful scenery of the Azraq Oasis and the Shaumari Nature Reserve. The Shaumari Nature Reserve which is set up as a breeding centre for endangered or locally extinct wildlife. With a bit of luck you can see the oryxes, ostriches and gazelles. You will have dinner in the Azraq guesthouse and spend the night there.(B,L,D)
Day 3 : Sheik Hussein/Umm Qais/Jerash
To Umm Qais will visit Umm Qais which was built mainly out of black basalt. Here you can enjoy the impressive view over Lake Tiberias and the Golan Heights and ride your cycles down to Jerash, check in at Olive Branch hotel, dinner and overnight. (L,D)
Day 4 : Visit Jerash - Wadi Shayip - Dead Sea.
After breakfast we ride our cycles to Jerash (2 miles) and we will visit Jerash, the Pompeii of the East. You will enter Jerash through the monumental South Gate and find yourself wandering around in a Roman city. You will walk in the Oval Plaza surrounded by colonnades, visit the Roman theatre and Byzantine churches with mosaic-covered floors. Enjoy a stroll along Jerash's main road, the Cardo, and pass by the Nymphaeum. Jerash has been covered by sand for centuries, the main reason why it is still so well-preserved. You may experience the marvellous acoustics of the theatre, the stage of the Jerash music festival which takes place every year. And see for yourself how the Romans built the earthquake-proof columns of the colonnaded streets. And then we drive down via Wadi Shayib, the green canyon, where the prophet Shuyaib located, the greenest place in Jordan we travel down to Dead Sea, the lowest spot on earth. The Dead Sea is believed to have healing powers, because of the super salty water. Sodom and Gomorrah, the site where Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt, is believed to have been located close to the Dead Sea. Enjoy the afternoon floating around in the sea water, bathing in the sun, or undergo one of the relaxing mud treatments. We check in at RSCN campsite, dinner and overnight (B,L,D)
Day 5 : Dead Sea- Kerak-Petra
After breakfast at Dead Sea beach, we travel up by bus to Kerak castle where Saladin and Richard Lionheart fought during the crusades. You will continue along the King's Highway, passing several ravines. To Petra, check in at Hotel, dinner and overnight (B,L,D)
Day 6 : Petra Full Day
In the morning a local guide will escort you into Petra and show you the highlights of the Nabatean city. You will enter the city through the Siq, the narrow gorge and be rewarded with the most astonishing and dramatic monument in Jordan: the Treasury. You will also visit the theatre, the tombs and façades and the colonnaded street. Afternoon climb up to the Monastery, enjoy the great view of Wadi Araba, and evening back to your Hotel in Petra. Day 7 : Petra/Wadi Rum/South border
In the morning cycling to Little Petra, stone age area, afternoon we drive you by bus to top of Ras Al-Neqeb for a great view of Wadi Rum and all south of Jordan. Then ride your cycles to Wadi Rum passing the new Bedouin villages, to the Moon Valley (Wadi Rum) famously described by T. E. Lawrence as "vast, echoing and God-like," and acclaimed by many as one of the most stunning desertscapes in the world. Wadi Rum is a nature-lover's paradise. Serious mountaineers relish its challenging climbs (some 1,750 meters up sheer granite and sandstone cliffs), while casual hikers enjoy the peace and tranquility of its sweeping vistas, towering rock faces and boundless empty spaces. In the evening we drive into the middle of the desert where we camp at Bedouin tents, with typical Bedouin entertainment. All equipment is available for overnight. (B,L,D).
Day 8 : Wadi Rum/Aqaba
In the morning one hour cycling to Aqaba, check in at Hotel, private beach, swimming and snorkelling, relax, and stay at the beach, overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 9 : Aqaba/Wadi Arava/Amman
Active day, cycling via flat desert, Wadi Arava, 150 Km, and continue by bus to Amman. Enjoy the highlights of Amman, city tour in Amman. Shopping in Old Souq, dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 10 : Breakfast, transfer to Airport, assist with departure (B,L)
