Places in Jordan - The Dead Sea

picture of the dead seaThis is the lowest point on earth at 412 metres below sea level. It was the centre of one of the biggest activities of the earth. It was the rift called the Syrian African Rift. Due to the depth below sea level and the very hot temperature, about 12 million tons of water has evaporated, and so the salinity of the Dead Sea is the highest in the world (38%). This is the reason why people can float easily, even if they do not know how to swim.

picture of the dead seaThe climate around the Dead Sea is typically Mediterranean - nice and cool in winter and very warm and humid in summer. The water and the mud of the Dead Sea, due to the high salinity, contains very highly concentrated therapeutic minerals. People can always come to enjoy a healthy sun-tan, whether in winter, when the sun is shining all the time, or in summer when the depth of the area naturally filters out all the (UVA) and (LTVB) rays.
