Horse Riding Tour of Jordan

A sample tour is given here of a horse ride in the Wadi Rum area that covers the most scenic parts. There is a main fixed camp – a large Bedouin tent which becomes home for 3 or 4 nights – and temporary campsites for the remaining 1 or 2 nights. There is time for full day visits to Petra and to Aqaba.

Day 1: QAI Amman - Amman Overnight.
Arrive in Amman, at Queen Alia International Airport, where you will be met and driven to your hotel. Meet your guide for dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Amman - Petra Overnight.
Breakfast at the hotel and then drive for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours south to Wadi Musa the modern town close to the ancient city of Petra. Day to visit Petra. Dinner & night in hotel.
Day 3: Petra - Wadi Rum Overnight.
Breakfast at the hotel then drive for an 1 1/2 hours to Wadi Rum stables to meet the horses. Set off riding Northward towards the "Seven Pillars of Wisdom". Stop for lunch. This morning is a slow and short ride to get used to the horses. In the afternoon we ride to see the famous Thamudic inscriptions and then head towards our first camp at the entrance to Barrah Canyon. Dinner & night in camp.
Day 4: Riding to Disi, AlGa'a, Manasheer, Barrah and Mzelgah.
Breakfast in camp, and then ride towards the agricultural village of Disi. This morning we ride over the famous mudflats of Al Ga'a which are perfect for a long exhilarating canter. We then ride through a small Bedouin village called Manasheer and back towards our camp at Barrah for lunch. In the afternoon we ride through Barrah Canyon - another spectacular canyon in Wadi Rum surrounded by high cliffs where we often see climbers scrambling up the rocky sides. We ride until the end of the canyon until we reach our fixed camp at Mzelgah. Dinner & night in camp.
Days 5, 6, 7 & 8: Full Days in Rum - Aqaba
After breakfast, we ride each day in a different direction, never passing the same way more than once. We ride until lunch and then return to our fixed camp at Mzelgah in the afternoon. On these days we will see Burdah mountain, Khour Al Ajram which is one of Wadi Rum's main valleys, the Rock Bridges of Wadi Rum, Jabal Al Mangour, Khazali Mountain, Lawrence's well and, if the weather permits, we ride south towards the Saudi border, Wadi Saabit. A nice, slow, long morning ride. Stop at camp site for lunch & dinner. The camp site is opposite Jabal Um Adami, Jordan's highest peak of 5948 feet. We will also get a chance to see some Bedouin tents with families, goats and camels. On the afternoon of day 8 we ride towards our stables in the village of Wadi Rum. End of ride and transfer to Aqaba. Dinner & night in hotel.
Day 9: Aqaba - Dead Sea - Amman.
Morning in Aqaba with time to swim and snorkel. Leave midday by car to the Dead Sea (approx. 3 hours). Spend 4 to 5 hours at the Dead Sea. In the evening transfer to hotel in Amman. Dinner & overnight.
Day 10: Amman - QAI Airport.
Breakfast and then transfer to the airport for your flight home.
